A living practice by Catherine Blakemore

the practice

Studio Catherine Imagines is a space where lived experience and imagination meet.

My practice expresses itself through painting, movement, writing, making, and handmade forms. Each emerges through the same approach, rooted in curiosity, feeling, and relationship with what is unfolding.

I rarely begin with a fixed plan. Some works develop through returning over time, while others emerge in one continuous flow.

I am drawn to what feels alive, and to that edge where something can be felt without needing to be fully defined. I stay in relationship with the work, sensing into each movement, material, and shift as it gradually finds its form.

I am drawn to the conversations that emerge through creative practice.

My background is in dance, where I spent many years training, performing, teaching, and choreographing. Over time, this body-led and intuitive way of working naturally expanded into painting, writing, making, and handmade forms.

Alongside my creative practice, I completed training in Holistic Integrated Creative Arts Therapy, deepening my understanding of embodiment, creative process, and the many ways creative expression can support connection and self-understanding.

Today, these experiences come together through an evolving studio practice, where painting, movement, writing, and handmade forms become different ways of entering the same conversation.
